Aschension Parish District Attorney Ricky Babin has decided not to pursue charges against a Louisiana State Police trooper involved in a deadly shooting during a traffic stop in 2025. The decision follows a six-month review of the case and a decision that the trooper acted within his legal authority to use deadly force as the suspect was armed and reaching for a weapon. The incident occurred in the early morning hours of Sept. 30, 2025. State police said the driver, Brandon Nicholas, was slow to stop and exit his vehicle due to slow movement and a lack of weapons in the vehicle. The final report on the incident found that of the 11 shots fired, two struck Nicholas, six hit the exterior of the car, and three were unaccounted for.
