A rare 1,900-year-old Roman-era monument, dedicated to the Roman god of light, was discovered in 2010 during construction work on a new cricket pavilion in Lewisvale Park, Edinburgh, Scotland. The altar, which was found in two pieces, originally stood around 4 feet tall and features four female busts representing seasons. It appears to have been dedicated by a soldier named Gaius Cassius Flavianus, who may have been in command of the Roman military base in Inveresk, Scotland, in A.D.
