Scientists from Amsterdam University Medical Centers have mapped all the nerves of the clitoris for the first time. The study, led by postdoctoral researcher Lee, captured clitoral nerves in three dimensions and at micron-scale resolution using an X-ray using a bright light source called a. The discovery could help surgeons restore clitoral function in patients who have experienced female genital mutilation. The findings have not yet been peer-reviewed, but could be used to improve reconstructive procedures for those with serious medical complications and are considered a human rights violation. The lead study author, Lee, hopes to expand her research to a larger sample size.
