Mary Fong Lau, 80, was sentenced to six days in jail, plus two years' probation and 200 hours of community service after entering a plea of no contest in the criminal case. The judge based her age and clean record prior to the crash, which killed a family of four in San Francisco's West Portal neighborhood two years ago, on the number of days she had already served. During the criminal trial, Lau did not explain why she was driving so fast in a 25 mph zone. In the civil lawsuits, Lau will be required to testify under oath about what happened during the crash. Two civil cases against Lau have been put on hold pending the criminal sentence. The victims' family believe that Lau's actions were a slap on the wrist for someone who killed four lives, but in the civil case, they plan to hold her accountable based on civil liability.
