A federal judge has ordered the immediate release of Marta Escalante Perez, a single mother of a child from Guatemala, who was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Oregon for eight months under the Trump administration's mass deportation campaign. The judge ruled that her detention was an abuse of discretion and that her continued detention serves no immigration purpose. Escalantes Perez, who is seeking a U-visa, was arrested in August and reunited with her children. An immigration judge had previously denied Escalant Perez's release on bond, arguing that she was a flight risk.
