New Durham bar Soif, a new coffeeshop-meets-bar, is set to open in early March at 331 West Main Street in downtown Durham, North Carolina. The space, which is 593 square feet inside the Snow Building, is smaller than any other bar and lacks Wi-Fi due to its compact size. Soif will serve coffee during the day and then shift to serve spritzers and cocktails at night. Jesse Gerstl, who also owns natural wine bar Delafia in South Roxboro Street, also designed the concept around a coffee bar where the bar is the center of the community. The bar is designed to be more intimate than traditional coffee shops in the U.S. and is modeled after coffee bars in Italy where the owner is familiar with coffee bars. The menu will focus on non-alcoholic cocktails, low-ABV drinks built around sherry, vermouth, and other aperitifs, and three full-strength cocktails.
