Cleveland Metropolitan School District layoffs spark student protest

The Cleveland Metropolitan School District's decision to lay off over 400 staffers led to a walkout from class at the Campus International School. The layoffs, along with the closure of 29 of the district's 88 schools and cuts to the central office, are expected to save roughly $50 million annually and bring the district into the black through the 2027–2028 school year. However, this relief may be temporary as the district faces another projected deficit of $49.1 million in the 2028–2029 school year, according to CEO Warren Morgan.
