Fairbanks North Star Borough mayor Grier Hopkins has proposed a budget for FY27, calling for more education funding. Hopkins proposed $60 million from the general fund for the borough's local contribution to the school district, which, combined with the $4.3 million he proposes to return to the district's operating budget from reallocated funds, would be the highest annual education funding the district has yet provided. The proposal includes a 2% increase in the mill rate, which he estimates would add up to around $17 in owed taxes each year.
