The Senior Citizens League, a nongovernmental advocacy group, has predicted that the 2027 cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) will be around 2.8%. This figure is unchanged since January, when the group forecasted a 2.5% COLA for 2027. The good news for retirees is that next year's adjustment will likely be roughly the same or higher than the 2026 raise. However, inflation has been increasing, largely due to rising oil prices and the ongoing war in Iran. The COLA, designed to help benefits maintain their purchasing power over time, has historically fallen short of what retirees need to survive. Most retirees feel the pinch, with 68% believing this year's 2.9% adjustment will provide little to no assistance in covering everyday expenses.
