A Valley attorney, Sheree Wright, has been disciplined by a federal judge for using AI-generated fake cases in legal filings in a discrimination lawsuit against the Phoenix Suns. The issue arose when a former employee claimed she was sexually harassed and retaliated against. The judge called this a case of AI hallucinations, which involves court filings with made-up legal references. Wright blamed her staffer for filing the wrong brief while she was on bereavement leave for a close family member. Sean Harrington, director of ASU's AI and Legal Tech Studio, said there have been over 12,000 cases of such AI hallucinations in court filings. As punishment, Wright must cover some attorneys' fees and undergo additional training on ethical use of AI.
