US remains Spain's top gas source but Russian shipments rise
Published on April 10, 2026.
The United States remained Spain's top gas source in March, despite a decrease in Russian shipments and total imports growing slightly year-on-year. Spain imported 37,633 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of gas, up from 36,530 GWh the previous year, according to grid operator Enagas. The U.S. accounted for 31.7% of the total, followed by Algeria with 10,262 GWh, or 30.2%. Despite this, Spain's reliance on the US has decreased as Russia increases to over a quarter of total imports. The region has been trying to phase out Russian energy since Moscow's invasion of Ukraine.
