Researchers from Project CETI, a US non-profit working to understand sperm whales, have found that their clicks, codas, are more complex than previously thought. The study, led by linguist Gašper Beguš and the University of California, Berkeley, found that these sounds are used in patterns similar to human speech. The implications could help us understand how language evolved and how whales communicate with other species. The research was published in the Proceedings B Society of the Royal Society of B.
