A-Z Animals has discovered that a tiny "Walking" fish, Antennarius maculatus, is the first of its kind to be successfully born and raised in an aquarium. The discovery was made at Chicago's Shedd Aquarium in 2025 when animal keepers noticed an egg mass floating in the Wild Reef exhibit. They removed the mass of warty frogfish eggs from the exhibit and placed them in a special habitat to test their chances of hatching. One egg survived and has reached the juvenile stage. The Aquarium considers this one in a million occurrence. The birth of this unique fish was a significant breakthrough for Aquarium Science.
