Google has reportedly signed a classified deal with the US Department of Defense that allows the use of its AI for "any lawful government purpose". This comes after Google employees demanded that the Pentagon stop using its AI inhumane or harmful ways. If confirmed, this would put Google alongside other AI companies such as OpenAI and xAI. However, the contract does not give Google the right to control or veto lawful government operational decisions.
