Naperville News Digest: Ory Garden Plots parking lot now open; fishing derby offers prizes for biggest catches

The renovated parking lot at the Ron Ory Community Garden Plots in Naperville, Illinois, has been opened to the public. The lot's permeable pavers replace gravel, allowing for improved drainage, water quality and accessibility for visitors. Funding for the project was provided by grants from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and DuPage County’s Water Quality Improvement Program. Anglers 16 years and older can compete for Bass Pro Shop gift cards during the Adult Fishing Derby on May 16 at the Hidden Lakes Trout Farm at Hidden Oaks Preserve in Bolingbrook. The entry fee is $5 and registration is required for registration. Several area students recently competed in the third annual Building Leadership Around Sustainable Transformation competition, or BLAST, which encourages students to create solutions to climate change and sustainability.
