15-Year-Old Boy Dies After Being ‘Fully Buried’ by Avalanche at Popular Ski Resort: ‘Horrible Situation’

A 15-year-old boy, Emilio Hrazdira, died after being buried by an avalanche at the Nakiska ski hill near Calgary, Canada on Friday, February 27. While one of two skiers was able to recover from the accident, Hrazidira was taken to the Alberta Children’s Hospital in critical condition but died the following day. The Alpine Ski Association expressed devastation in a social media statement following the death. The incident occurred at approximately 12:49 p.m. on the day of the incident, conditions were considered high-temperable, indicating human-triggered avalanches were likely. An investigation into the incident is under way.
