Security concerns have been raised around the World Cup in the US, where hundreds of millions of dollars of approved security funds have been delayed, causing U.S. preparations to fall behind. The threat of extremist attacks, including attacks on transportation infrastructure and civil unrest related to President Donald Trump's immigration crackdown has been identified. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) had initially intended to allocate the funds no later than January 30. However, after inquiries by Reuters, FEMA announced that it had awarded the grants, stating they would bolster security preparations. The World Cup, one of the world's largest sporting events, will be held across three countries - the United States, Canada, and Mexico. With the first matches starting in Mexico on June 11, 2022, states and cities hosting the events are already preparing for possible attacks.
