Chick-fil-A has implemented a reward system for families who go phone-free during meals, offering free ice cream to those who share a meal without screens. The move was inspired by a mother of two who spent an entire meal on her cell phone during a meal. The chain has since implemented a "cell phone coop" for every table in its Georgia locations, with over 10,000 made since mid-January. The coops are part of a broader effort to instill civility and communion among diners. A study found that one in three Americans can't eat a meal while on their phone, and nearly 200 independent Chick-fl-A operators have co-opted the cell phone cooperative for their restaurants.
