President Donald Trump has called Alaska's ranked-choice voting system "fraudulent" and "disastrous," without evidence. This statement contradicts claims by election officials and researchers that are not supported by data. The president stated that the people of Alaska want to restore "Free, Fair, and Honest Elections" in their state and will vote to repeal ranked-Choice Voting in the November 3, 2026 Election. This comes as data shows that non-citizen voting in Alaska and the U.S. is rare, but ranked choice voting is a ballot-counting method, not a voter eligibility system, and since 2015, there have been 70 possible noncitizens voting or attempted to vote in state or local elections. In response, Alaska Democratic party chair Eric Croft called the statement a threat to Alaska’s election integrity. In the race for the U-S. House, Democrat Nick Begich praised the president, while former Democratic Congresswoman Mary Peltola opposed the president's statement.
