New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani and state Governor Kathy Hochul have announced that 2,000 free childcare places will be offered to two-year-olds starting later this year. The program will grow to 12,000 spots for an estimated 100,000 New Yorkers next year. Funding for the program, called 2K, will be from New York State, part of the $1.2 billion committed to investing in free early childcare. The announcement was made as part of a broader effort to fulfill Maddani's campaign promise of universal childcare.
