Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla) has been under fire during a contentious confirmation hearing for his nomination to lead the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). His colleagues grilled him on everything from past comments about the "smell" of war to his clash with the panel's chair. Senate Homeland and Governmental Affairs Committee Chair Rand Paul (R) stated that Mullin's penchant for violence makes him a poor example for leading immigration enforcement agencies. However, Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) has said he plans to support Mullin, a crucial vote for advancing out of the panel.
