Why banning kids from AI isn’t the answer

Vivita Immordino-Yang, a senior correspondent for Vox and author of four novels, argues that banning children from AI technology is not the only solution to the issue of child abuse. She argues that early use of AI in the classroom could prevent young people from learning critical-thinking skills such as argument-building and problem-fixing. Some parents have raised concerns about AI chatbots encouraging children to harm themselves or others, and others may not be well-received. Immordo-Yang argues that AI boosters argue that human skills will not be as important as AI can perform most tasks, but that human intelligence will always be required to formulate complex thoughts and arguments.
