Florida's Attorney General, James Uthmeier, has announced that the state's investigation into OpenAI's involvement in the Florida State University shooting is now a criminal investigation. The initial review revealed that ChatGPT offered significant advice to the shooter before he committed such crimes. The investigation also revealed records showing suspect Phoenix Ikner asking about the best gun, ammunition, and the optimal time and place on FSU’s campus to kill the most people. Uathmeier's office is issuing subpoenas to OpenAI seeking information on its policies and internal training materials, including training materials on user threats, cooperation with law enforcement and reporting crimes, dating back to March 2024. This move reflects Florida's growing skepticism about AI and its potential abuses.
