Two young passengers, Ernesto Guzman and Clarice Partee, fell from a balcony on the Princess Cruise’s Grand Princess during a night cruise in the middle of the night on the first night of a weeklong Caribbean trip. The incident, which occurred 150 miles off the Texas coast, stunned fellow travelers and triggered a dramatic rescue at sea. The cruise ship's veteran captain, Ed Perrin, managed to turn the 109,000-ton boat around in just 10 minutes. Both passengers survived the ordeal, with Guzman receiving relatively minor injuries, while Partee sustaining broken ribs and a lung injury. The rescue operation required careful coordination, including shutting down the ship's engines to listen for calls for help in the water.
