Man Who Defrauded South Bay Apple Store Sentenced To Prison

Chinese national, Zhengxuan Hu, has been sentenced to two years in prison for defrauding an Apple store in the greater Los Angeles area. The counterfeit iPhones and iPads were imported from China and exchanged at Apple Manhattan Village and other stores across the region. The scheme cost Apple at least $16.2 million. Five other defendants have pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and mail fraud and are awaiting sentencing. The real identification numbers and serial numbers on the counterfeit devices were designed to impersonate genuine Apple devices.
