Solages Joins Rally Against Algorithmic Pricing Monday

Algorithmic pricing, or "surveillance pricing," uses customers' personal information to set unique prices for different individuals. Critics argue that this practice allows companies to engage in predatory upcharging. New York Attorney General Letitia James, Senate Deputy Majority Leader Michael Gianaris, Senator Rachel May, and Assemblymember Emérita Torres also supported the One Fair Price Package, which would ban the practice in grocery stores and pharmacies. The bill also requires the disclosure of automated pricing systems and businesses that fail to comply with this could face a $10,000 fine for their first offense and the forfeiture of any algorithmically-obtained profits.
