NASA has been criticised by the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) for its approach to next-generation spacesuits, which led to delays in the development of next-gen spacesuits. The agency's approach to creating moon spacesuits has led to a delay in preparing for astronaut moon landings as soon as 2028, according to the OIG. The delays could push readiness for a crewed landing back to 2031, three years past the current Trump administration's current deadline. NASA's new approach to spacesuit development aims to speed up the process significantly. The OIG also criticised NASA for delaying services for spacewalking before the market was ready, implementing milestone payments and requiring vendors to submit "overly burdensome" moon and microgravity spacesuit bids at the same time. However, NASA administrator, Jared Isaacman, remains confident that astronauts will be wearing Axiom suits for the 2028 moon-landing target.
