The agents are assisting Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers who have been left without pay and suspended their nonessential privileges and courtesies. President Donald Trump had threatened to deploy ICE agents to airports if Democrats failed to agree on a funding bill. Pennsylvania Democratic Sen. John Fetterman, the only Democrat to oppose a government shutdown, has publicly opposed the shutdown. Elon Musk has offered to pay the salaries of TSA officers, although the legality of this arrangement remains unclear.
