PacifiCorp, the Oregon utility, is seeking a rare 'interim' rate increase in electricity rates due to financial difficulties, including credit rating downgrades due to wildfire liability and rising insurance costs. The request includes an overall increase of nearly $171 million across all customer classes. The company claims that the 1.9% net increase for residential customers next year will be only a net 1.3% increase compared to today’s bill. The Oregon Citizens’ Utility Board, a watchdog organization that advocates for utility customers, criticised the request as confusing and potentially misleading. If the Oregon Public Utility Commission approves the interim increase, PacifiCorp wants the full rate hike to take effect April 5, 2027.
