Longtime Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) defeated his millennial Democratic opponent in the primary election for Mississippi's 2nd Congressional District. Thompson, seeking an 18th term in Congress, received 84.8% of the vote in the solidly blue district. His opponent, Evan Turnage, was only 1 years old when Thompson was first elected to Congress. Turnage's campaign emphasized the need for generational change and Thompson's tenure. Thompson is seeking another term in the House at a time when many of his longtime colleagues are retiring.
