21-year-old pleads guilty to murdering bystander in deadly Lancaster County shooting

Asael Torres-Chirinos, a 21-year-old man, pleaded guilty to murder and several other charges related to an attempted armed robbery in Lancaster County, South Carolina in May that left a bystander dead. The plea was negotiated to a sentence of life in prison without parole. Torres-chirinos was the only adult among 5 teenagers charged in connection with the shooting that killed 40-year old Larisha Thompson. The shooting occurred just before midnight on May 2 along Riverside Road in Lancaster. Two days before the deadly shooting, deputies were called to the Van Wuck Mart to investigate a burglary. Ballistics evidence from both the deadly shootings and the attempted burglary matched a 9mm handgun. On May 8, Torres- Chirinos' home was seized after a search warrant.
