Tick-related emergency room visits in Morris County, New Jersey, are at their highest level in a decade, according to the CDC. The county has been known for its high tick populations, particularly those with deer ticks carrying Lyme Disease. A Change.org petition has been created by Morris County resident Rebecca Koar, urging county officials to take further action in tick and insect prevention this year. Petitioners argue that the current level of tick-related ER visits is not normal but a warning. They praise the Morris County Division of Mosquito Control's bug-spraying and educational programs, but argue that more needs to be done. The cold winter in the area may have contributed to the early spike in tick populations. For every 100,000 ER visits in New Jersey for every 100k visits, 13 were for tick-based complaints. The Northeast is the most common tick bite visit, followed by the Midwest, Southwest, West, and South Central regions.
