Lyons Township Assessor Pat Hynes defeated incumbent Assessor Fritz Kaegi with 52% of the vote. Hynes, whose uncle Tom Hynes ran the office from 1978 to 1997, blamed Kaegis for soaring property tax bills. The Cook County Democratic Party, led by President Toni Preckwinkle, backed Hynes' campaign and supported him over Kaegegi. Hyns will now face no opposition in the November election.
