Former pro-surfer, humanitarian Jon Rose awarded for making waves in global water crisis

Former professional surfer Jon Rose has been awarded for his work in helping to address the global water crisis, which affects an estimated one in 10 people worldwide. Rose, who first started his work at age 9, began his career as a pro surfer and later became an environmentalist through his love for surfing. He started Waves For Water in 2009, a non-profit dedicated to correcting the imbalances of water scarcity in developing communities and responding to global natural disasters. Since then, he has devoted his life to his organization's philosophy: "Do what you love and help along the way." The organization has delivered clean water solutions to millions of people across 51 countries and responded to 47 disasters worldwide.
