The Oregon Ducks' running backs coach, Ra'Shaad Samples, has been charged with DUII and reckless driving for backing into a parked car with his truck in April. Oregon coach Dan Lanning responded to reporters during his first fall camp media availability, stating that the program takes such action seriously and is being handled internally. Samples has led Oregon’s running back room to success through his first two seasons under his coaching, leading to breakout seasons for true freshmen running backs Dierre Hill Jr. and Jordon Davison under his guidance. Additionally, Samples is credited with helping recruit former five-star receivers Dakorien Moore and Jalen Lott, and Hill, Davison, incoming four-star running back Tradarian Ball and CaDarius McMiller.
