Netflix is set to reboot its popular animated film, 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,' by creating a darker version of the original story. The animated feature, set to stream in 2017, will take place in modern-day London where Willy Wonka (voiced by Taika Waititi) is facing consequences of his actions. The film will be directed by Jared Stern (, ) and Elaine Bogan, with an original song by Sony Pictures Imageworks. The studio is behind the project and produced by Aron Warner and Timothy Yoo, while Waititi is an executive producer. The company has acquired the Roald Dahl Story Company in 2021 and is moving ahead with new shows and films.
