The MLB is introducing the ABS, Automated Balls and Strikes system, a system that automates ball decisions. The system uses 12-Eye cameras to track pitches within one inch of accuracy. If a challenger is wrong, the call is overturned. This system allows teams to retain an element of contention that allows an umpires to maintain an umpire's authority. The change comes after C.B. Bucknor, one of the worst home-plate umpire in Major League Baseball, was accused of being out-of-control and indecisiveness. Despite challenges, the Red Sox and Reds successfully challenged Bucknor eight times, six times. The new system allows for more accurate ball decisions and allows for better outcomes in games.
