The Giants failed to score enough to avoid being swept by the Yankees in their opening series of the season, losing 3-1. The Yankees were already leading when Matt Chapman singled home Jung Hoo Lee in the third inning. The Giants doubled their total of hits in the four games, but Tyler Mahle's team debut ended after four innings. Aaron Judge hit the Yankees’ third home run of the series and Ben Rice doubled home more runs in one swing than the Giants had previously managed. Despite a strong start from the Giants' manager Tony Vitello, the team fell to 0-3 as a major-league manager, marking the worst start for a Giants skipper since 1984. The last time the Giants did not win any of their first three games was in 2012.
