New Google Spam Policy Targets Back Button Hijacking

Google has added a new section to its spam policies, naming "back button hijacking" as an explicit violation under the malicious practices category. This comes as a two-month grace period before enforcement begins on June 15. Sites involved in back button hijack risk manual spam penalties or automated demotions, which can lower their visibility in Google Search results. The new section also includes an updated spam policies documentation listing back-button hijacking alongside malware and unwanted software as a malicious practice. The change comes after Google reported an increase in this behavior across the web.
