The legendary London pie and mash shop, Cockney's in Notting Hill, may be forced to close due to rent increases. The landlord of the restaurant is reportedly planning to double its rent from £31,500-a-year to £64,000, making it impossible for owner Ruth Phillips to keep it open. Despite a petition signed by thousands of people urging the landlord to keep the restaurant open, Joe Powell, the MP for Kensington and Bayswater, has urged him to reconsider the rent increase.
