The New York Times, CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC and USA Today have been accused of downplaying, obfuscating or justifying an ISIS-inspired bomb attack in New York City due to the fact that the attack was aimed at people they loathe. The Times' headline, "Smoking Jars of Metal and Fuses Thrown at Protest Near Mayor’s House," suggested that the attackers were anti-Islamic protesters and Mayor Zohran Mamdani was their intended target. However, the Times' updated headline stated that the counterprotester accused of throwing the bomb was one of six people arrested following a clash with anti-Islam protesters led by right-wing activist Jake Lang. The coverage portrayed the attackers as having been provoked by Lang, yet the planning and coordination for their attack took more than a few days.
