The Massachusetts Parole Board has denied the release of 35-year-old convicted murderer Michel St. Jean, who was 20 when he and two others were charged in the slaying of 58-year old Richel Nova. One of St.Jean's accomplices, Alexander Gallett, was the one who fatally stabbed Nova, and the Parole board denied his freedom. The murder occurred on Sept. 1, 2010, when Nova was robbed and butchered. Both Gallett and St. Jeans were convicted of first-degree murder in 2014 and sentenced to life without parole, but became eligible for parole after the state Supreme Judicial Court's Mattis decision in 2024 ruled that emerging adults who were 18 to 20 at the time of the offense cannot be sentenced to a life without freedom.
