President Trump has suggested that the US could "easily" take the Strait of Hormuz and "make a fortune" if it took control of oil exports in the Persian Gulf. However, he also called on US allies like the UK to assist in reopening the strait, which provides a fifth of the world's seaborne oil. The president suggested that buying oil from the United States would be a "gusher" for the world. He also suggested a military operation to seize Kharg Island in the Straitit, a key hub of Iran's oil exports. If the Straitits continues to remain closed, Trump has threatened to bomb Iran back to the Stone Ages.
