Senators Reveal Bipartisan Bill to Outlaw Sports Prediction Markets

A bipartisan duo of U.S. senators, Adam Schiff (D-CA) and John Curtis (R-UT), plan to introduce legislation that would ban American prediction markets from offering sports-related wagers. The bill would prohibit these platforms from offering such sports markets as unlicensed sports betting. The legislation would also enforce Congress' original intent that the Commodity Exchange Act does not permit sports gambling. In the past, several states have sued these platforms, arguing their markets should comply with state gambling laws. However, Kalshi and others argue that their sports-based wagers should be regulated at the federal level. The ongoing jurisdictional dispute over sports wagers is likely to be decided by the Supreme Court.
