Elon Musk, the first witness in his lawsuit against Sam Altman, Greg Brockman, OpenAI and Microsoft, portrayed himself as a leading advocate for AI safety, in contrast to what he alleges is the profit-oriented OpenAI. His self-portrait clashed with OpenAI's counterargument that Musk was fine with a for-profit OpenAI when he thought he could control it. Musk argued that the only way to keep AI from "killing us all" was to keep it out of the hands of anyone trying to profit on it. However, Open AI's lead counsel, William Savitt, countered that Musk cared more about human rights than a potentially sentient AI. Savitt also challenged Musk's picture of himself as "the paladin of safety and regulation." However, this trial has not been mentioned in light of the controversy surrounding the use of a racist and sexist chatbot by Musk's Grok chatbot.
