The Conservative Coalition of America president Cory Stephens argued that regular citizens would have fared differently if they had brought a gun to the airport. Despite the lack of information regarding the disappearance and presumed abduction of Nancy Guthrie, which has not been identified as a motive for the attack, Nanous defended his team in an interview.
