Venture capitalist Mark Yusko has accused Senator Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo) of betraying the crypto industry by abandoning its support for the Clarity Act settlement on stablecoin yield. Yusko argued that the Clity Act represents regulatory capture rather than the clarity the industry needs. He compared the gaslighting of the bill to the Inflation Reduction Act, which often gives bills names that reflect the opposite of what they actually do. The settlement means banks gain while crypto receives nothing, and Yusko suggested that lobbying, which is often bribery and corruption dressed up with a respectable name, was a betrayal. He also questioned why companies backed both sides to ensure the winner was the winner.
