Lawyers to the wealthy have warned that AI legal advice comes with serious risks. Lawyers are increasingly using AI to research tax topics and to second-judge their lawyers' advice. Some lawyers argue that it helps clients come up with informed questions and learn basic concepts, but also presents legal risks. One client, a high-net-worth Florida resident, claimed AI suggested creating a community property trust to save on taxes for his heirs after his wife died. Another lawyer, Robert Strauss, said several clients have uploaded trust documents to AI systems and suggested edits, leading to a lack of trust in their lawyer. Strauss' firm is currently revising their client contract to warn clients that using AI chatbots can potentially void attorney-client privilege.
