ICE agents will be stationed outside graduation events for the nation's newest Marines in South Carolina to check if any of their family members are undocumented. The Marine Corps has increased protection measures on bases, requiring everyone to present REAL IDs, U.S. passports or birth certificates to access any sites. Undocumented immigrants are generally ineligible for federal REAL IDs and are ineligible for U.N. passports and birth certificates. Those without these documents may have to answer to Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials at Marine Corps Recruit Depot at Parris Island in Beaufort, South Carolina. This is the first time in recent memory that federal law enforcement agencies have supported base access operations at Parries Island in this capacity. It is unclear whether ICE will continue this involvement or if it could expand to other bases.
