The United States and Iran have disagreed over whether top officials will meet in Pakistan for a second round of negotiations to end the war, just before a two-week ceasefire between the two countries was set to expire. The White House's Vice President, JD Vance, is expected to lead a U.S. delegation, accompanied by top Trump aides Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. This would be the second meeting of high-level officials since the ceasefire went into effect on April 8. The tensions have escalated as the economically vital Strait of Hormuz remains all but closed, a move Trump described as a "total violation of our ceasefire" Iran has effectively closed the strait, a waterway crucial to global energy supplies, in defiance of one of Trump's conditions for the temporary truce.
